I'm sick of Charter...have been for years. I hate that they suck at Customer Service and are basicallly forcing me to be on the FULL movie package just so I can get my HD channels. You can't just get the regular HD channels and not the movie channels...you have to have the FULL service to get the HD package. if you want HD for your HD big screen you gotta pay for all the damn movies. I can't just get ESPN HD...Bunch of damn crooks...as are the certain someones in Lee county that are allowing it to go on! I've always heard "you don't get local channels with a dish?" Does this mean I cannot get CBS, NBC, etc or does that mean I can't get WSFA and Jeff Shearer's slanted Bama Sports report (he's a bammer...Phil Snow where are you!?) I can live without the WSFA, WRBLs, of the world. In fact WRBL is the WORST station in the world! I do, however, watch certain shows on the major network feeds. SO....does anyone know if I switch to dish if I'll get CBS and NBC? Again...I don't care about the local news...I never watch it anyway. "Don't give up, don't ever give up." - Jimmy V.

I have Directv and can get local(b'ham) channels, but it does cost $5 or$10 extra. It is still cheaper than cable by a long shot.

Last I heard, directv had at least 97% of the country covered for local channels in standard definition. Most should be in HD by now. There's no contest between directv and charter, and when you switch over to directv, they'll hook you up nice. They love new customers. Just browse around the site and see what you like. There's so many channels, and a LOT are now offered in HD. DirecTV is the only way to go. WDE and good luck.

Don't for get you get the local stations HD for free on charter---you can get just a hd package (I had it) but discontinued it because it just was not worth it to me. My internet constantly goes down, even though a guy came out and "fixed it" yesterday, and you're right, they try to force you into packages. You pretty much have no option but to get digital now. I remember when basic cable cost about $36/mo, then they upped the price of basic to be about equal to digital, add in internet and you're looking at $116 or so a month. I just moved back to Auburn from Montgomery; there I had Knology and paid $78 for digital cable and internet, and it was better than Charter by far! We're so fed up with Charter. Charter has always sucked, and always will. I agree with 11 on this one, you have got to get Direct TV. Several packages are avaliable, but your going to pay around $80.00 ( I think) for the HD channel package. The only problem I have is that during bad storms forget about watching TV, it goes out. Of course, that only happens ever so often, and usually not for very long. I got mine mostly for tailgating purposes, and we were sick of Comcast! I live in Franklin now, but when I lived in Auburn they did offer the Local channels for $5.00 a month extra. Enjoy! "Believe me on this. Please. WRBL is a close second. we're stuck with them for our CBS footage because we're closer to Columbus than Montgomery. CBS = SEC Football, Masters and other golf, NCAA March Madness. The fact that all that coverage comes through WRBL sucks...because when they go out (and they do!) we sometimes miss some of the best sports on TV! ...the fact that knology is in Montgomery and Columbus but not here in Auburn/Opelika tells me that someone's pockets are getting full....I'll continue to vote for a different Mayor each election until one finally adds some competition to the cable industry in lee county. I get the basic package, HD programing, DVR, and local channels (non-HD) for 65 bucks a month. $5 DVR fee, $5 Local channels. I also have an outdoor Antenna for locals in HD with a power booster. I run the outdoor antenna into the dish reciever so I can use the DVR on locals in HD. I bought the local channels for the TV guide on dish for my Antenna channels to record and as a back-up during game days. I have been very pleased with service with dish, only during really bad storms do I lose signal and I have had some trouble with the reciever going bad but Dish has been great in replacing quickly, usually 2-3 days through mail.The HD lineup continues to improve and the only channels I am still wanting to be HD that isn't yet is Spike TV and comedy central. My biggest complaint with dish is they started deleting my Pay per view movies on the DVR without informing me, but I guess Direct is doing so too. After having a DVR, I can never go back...........

My internet is driving me absolutely bonkers! The guy "fixed" it yesterday and it went down again last night and wouldn't come back up, then this morning it worked long enough to check my email then I had to reset it twice to do anything else. I believe all you can get is DSL through satellite providers and it is considerably slower than cable internet. I also am pretty sure it is way over priced. They wanted to charge my mom somewher like $250 just to set it up, then service would have been like $50 extra a month. But I, myself, live in Phenix City. We also have the problem of a monopoly cable provider. We only have Cable TV of East Ala for Russell County and the edges of Lee County like up to Salem and Beauregard maybe. But anyway, I hate being under the reign of only one provider. Without any competition there is no drive for better customer service or prices. They know if people dont like them, then oh well, go get satellite. BUT the problem with satellite service in Phenix City is the local channels do NOT have contracts with the satellite providers. Therefore you cannot pay the extra $5 for local channels, so you must have a a goodexpensive outdoor antenna for locals. But I dont want to speak too bad of my cable company, cuz they have treated me right the last two situations and I dont want to jinx it.
