Hey tider, that sports illustrated cover on your post, the one with ole nicky and the words "Bamas Back" wasn't there one like that on a SI cover
back in 2005 right after the game where Prothro broke his leg? Is this "bama's back" the same as that "bama's back?"
Just a joke son, just a joke. |

Prothro Nostalgia | ||

I really hated to see his career end. That kid had a special talent (only a 3 star I might add), and every single person that saw him play new he was much
better than the gurus listed him. He made UA a threat to win every game he played in, and I think it's no coincidence that Bama's woes began in earnest
when he was injured. He was truly one of the best high school players I have ever seen, and a good kid as well.

I have to agree with you plaintruth. Prothro was a great player. I hated to see him suffer an injury like that. You hate to see anyone get hurt no matter who
they play for. By the way, does anyone know how Prothro is doing these days? Is he going to be able to walk without a bad limp? I sure hope that things go well
for him. These kids are human beings and if you can't feel for them then something is wrong.

Who could forget that catch vs Southern Miss...

If he doesnt make that catch I think bammer loses that game.

No doubt about that Bull

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but in thinking back to when Prothro played, I think he was so good that his teammates knew their place when he was on
the field. His injury led to chaos among the players as to who would be the star IMHO. Watching that play made my ankle, as well as my heart, hurt for Prothro,
because I just had the feeling he was through.

Seeing Prothro go down was one of the saddest things I've ever witnessed... I knew I was seeing the end of a long and prosperous career. I so hate it for
Prothro, I do think if he hadn't gotten hurt we would have beaten LSU and AU, I know you guys disagree but it's the way I feel. He didn't just
have great athleticism, he was a great leader, and when he went down so did the whole moral of the team. I don't wish that on ANYONE, not a player from
Alabama, not a player from Auburn, not a player from Tennessee. You guys have been pretty classy about that and I thank you for it. I hope he finds success
later on in life, I know he'll be taken care of by the Bama nation, but to think of the future he had ahead of him. I hope I never have to see anyone,
especially a college kid playing football get hurt like that again.

No offense Tide 4Ever, but you guys couldn't block us in that game. It dioesn't matter who you had a wideout when you give up 10+ sacks in a game. JMO.
But, I will also agree Prothro was pretty darn good.

TDawgPike wrote: No offense taken, like I said it's just my opinion. I've said before I give Auburn all the credit for the past 6 years, you guys have earned it
and you're not gonna hear many excuses from me. I was saying that Prothro is such a strong leader, that when he was in he made the team better. The way
we lost to LSU completely deflated us in every way imaginable that season, I think if we had beaten LSU, I think the Iron Bowl would have been a different
game. It's the past now and theres nothing we can do to change it, but still we can always wonder what could have been.

don't blame you tider | ||

I don't blame you tider. Prothro may well have made a difference in the 05 game. I feel very certain had cadillac not gone down in the 01 iron bowl
we'd be sitting on 8 in a row.

I don't have that. What does it say?

I agree | ||

To me Prothro was that special. He was a nightmare to gameplan for, and contributed in so many ways. I felt the same for him that I did when Bo got hurt
playing for the Raiders. King has a great point about Caddy as well, but at least we knew Carnell would return the next year. They were both humble young men,
from similar backgrounds, in Cleburne and Etowah counties. Sometimes it helps a team to have that clear cut number 1 player. Everybody else then learns to play
their role, and the team functions at a higher level.
