Come on guys, you know as well as I that a huge chunk of that is to pay for the deficits from the Bush administration. As examples, Bush put both war expenditures (Afghan & Iraq) on supplemental so that they didn’t show up initially as budget deficits. He did the same with Medicaid Part D. And then there are the unfunded tax cuts for the one percent.

Do you propose we not pay our debts?

Obama, on the other hand, put all of those on the books, as it were, as well as all present and future military spending in those theaters of operations; and his healthcare plan, when fully implemented, will close the Part D doughnut hole saving billions if not trillions. He has also attempted to raise the tax rate on the top one percent a measly three tenths of one percent, which would increase revenue dramatically, but noooooooooooooo.

You guys are killing me. You conveniently ignore the entire Bush presidency as if it never happened while simultaneously expecting Obama to turn this battleship of an economic catastrophe around… in a bathtub.

And many of the Bush policies Obama has continued which disturb me, personally, and should be cheered by you, are ignored and/or minimized by those of you who defended them in the first place: Extraordinary rendition, Gitmo remaining open, illegal wiretapping, the assassination of an American citizen, etc.

Christ-on-a-half-shell, you refuse to give the man any credit for the killing of bin Laden, Qadaffi, successfully rescuing hostages from pirates on two separate occasions (with no loss of American life), and on and on.

No, you knuckleheads put political partisanship before what is beneficial to our Country. You will consistently allow yourselves to be manipulated, emotionally, into believing that what Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, et al is selling to you will culminate in monetary wealth; never mind that the odds of you actually becoming a member of the one percent is about the same as you winning the power-ball lottery, struck by lightning (twice in two different locations), and being killed by a polar bear in the Bahamas on the same day.

Oh, and you realize that General Motors is again the number one car manufacture in the world… all thanks to the bailout of we taxpayers. And this is a bad thing?      

My best friend of 20+ years lost his lifelong battle with alcoholism when he hung himself last December. Four days prior to his death, he finally acquiesced to my endless pleading and checked himself into the local hospital for detoxification. At that time his blood alcohol level was 9.7 times the legal limit.

So yes, Charles, I have given money to an alcoholic. More than that, I’ve gone so far as to purchase a half gallon of the cheapest vodka made and delivered it to him.

I did this many times over the last 3 or 4 years, but only after consulting with two registered nurses I know personally and a well known doctor around here who has over 40 years of experience treating alcoholism.

I learned that it is extremely dangerous for an alcoholic like John to stop cold turkey. It can often be fatal.

There were times when John was unable to simply hold a half full glass of water in his hand; his muscles would convulse and jerk to the point he would spill its entire contents in seconds.

So I was faced with a couple of hard decisions. I could either let John drive himself to the package store, thereby endangering his life and others (because his body had to have, and he was, by God, determined to get alcohol in his system) or, I could fetch it for him myself.

I chose the latter, and I’ve been beating myself up to hell and back over it every day since his death; even though I am constantly assured by everyone, including the doctor, that I “did the right thing.”

In the end, you see, John didn’t die from alcohol poisoning, or cirrhosis, or the myriad other medical conditions and complications associated with severe alcoholism. The piteous alms I provided had little bearing, in the grand scheme of things, to John’s ultimate demise.

No, in the end he died from his own hands, silencing once and for all, the voices in his head he was certain were driving him ever closer to total and permanent psychosis.
