Ive been requested by a couple to update the recruiting situation on our top prospects for the 06 class in each position, a little extra on what I have heard, and which ones I think we will have on our commitment list.
Here we go......
Offense:
QB: Neil Caudle (Committed to AU), Top QB in AL
Steven Ensminger (Committed to AU)
---------No more qb commitments will be accepted.
RB: Mario Fannin (Committed to AU)
Benjamin Tate (Committed to AU), Top RB in MD
---------The coaches consider the rb position closed for the 06 class, however they are still recruiting Cordera Eason (MS) & Carlos Brown (GA). They will take Eason's commitment and have Mario coming in as an ATH. Carlos Brown is considered an instate commitment at this point, so look at GTech or Georgia signing him in Feb.
WR: Terrell Zachery (Committed to AU), No. 2 WR in AL
Chris Slaughter (Commited to AU), Top 10 player in GA
Alex Rose (Committed to AU), WR out of FL
----------As of right now the coaches wont be taking anymore WR prospects except Tim Hawthorne or Jamar Hornsby. Hawthorne is very limited to leaking out info on his recruitment but many have said AU might have the lead. Hornsby is one of top 30 players in the country and is considered a Florida lock. Chris Slaugher IMO is our best receiver so far, he is putting up monster numbers this year and could be one of the top WR in the southeast when said and done.
TE: No commitments.
----------AU will take 1 commitment in the Tight End position but our top prospect Michael Goggans has commited to Tennesee. The good thing is he is soft on his commitment and still have a great chance to lure him away. I think he commits to us in Feb.
OL: No commitments.
-----------AU is having problems with our in-state OL prospects. Pharr is committed to UAT, Ross was believed to have committed to UAT in the locker room after the UF game, and Smith (top OL prospect in the country/state/2nd best player in the country) is all but headed to UAT also since Huffman is a pipeline to UAT. Our top prospects left on our board are as follows.
-Jacques McClendon (Commited to Tennessee)
-Aaron Brown (Committed to VaTech)
-Mike Berry (AU is his leader)
-Jeffery Adams (Down to AU & NEB)
-Heath Batchelor(Committed to Duke)
-Lawrence Marsh(Open to many)
Defense:
LB: Hendrick Leverette (Committed to AU), #2 LB in MS
-----------AU will only be taking 1-2 more lb prospects which are as follows in order of importance. Chasman Davis, LaBronski Hutchins, and Tim Rawlinson. If Chasman Davis commits, then i would expect the LB class closed. The kid is a monster, a basic clone of last years Tray Blackmon he just isnt getting the recognition.
DB: Zaccheus Etheridge (Committed to AU), top db in AL
------------I would expect AU to take one more defensive back in this class, and it would have to be Jacques Rickerson. We are in with a couple bigger prospects but many arent looking at us anymore, which is why Rickerson is our last main prospect at this position.
DL: Bart Eddins (Committed to AU), top DT in AL
Kareem Crowell (Committed to AU), one of the top DT's in FL
Greg Smith (Committed to AU), JC prospect
Zach Clayton (Commitment to AU), Coaches big on this kid
------------This will be the biggest commitment position in this years class, since the coaches get DL prospects and convert some to OL. These are the following prospects left on our list in order of importance. Jermaine Cunningham(#2 DE in GA/top 10 player in GA), Raven Grey(#1 DE in AL/top 10 player in AL=AU big leader), Deantwan Whitehead(#2 DE in AL/top 10 in AL), Jermarcus Ricks(#2 DT in AL/top 15 player in AL=AU leader) & Corey Peters(Top DT in KY/AU leading). There are a couple more but they are slowly starting to pickup, but this is the hardest area the predict. Peters/Whitehead/Cunningham are wideopen.
Of the prospects above these are the ones I think we have come signing day in the middle of Feb. The approximate class size will be bigger than expected do to a couple quiting the team...etc., so look at around 22-24 commitments.
