But I'm Back in Black...
Got home from our trip to Texas on Monday. Been watchin you jokers for a few days.
I'm down with the Mods on a vengeance campaign. Consider me your internet Anton Chigurh. Inbox me anyone you have a problem with and I'll take em out
with a captive bolt pistol.
Visited the step son in Austin. Cool city...neat and clean, lots of new construction...growing like crazy. Good Mexican food. Quite the homeless population.
Saw the largest urban bat colony in the world. 2-3 million Mexican fruit bats swarm out from under a downtown overpass around dusk. Pretty awesome sight.
Headed to one of the premier trophy bass lakes in the USA....Lake Fork for the weekend. Never seen a lake like that. Standing timber
everywhere, many broken off at the water line, tons of hydrilla and shad. Stocked with Florida Black Bass. Not one Jet-ski or skier...that would be quick death
on the water.
Fished with a friend who lives there....he has won several tournaments on this lake...10K a couple of weekends ago. He took me to school. (fish pun)
I actually thought I knew a little about bass fishin but daayum...this was totally different than anything I've ever seen or done. Fishin in the Southeast
we troll around throwin at bank points or boat docks.
Not one cast at the bank all weekend....Hell, we never got close enough. I know it's mid-summer and in the heat the fish find cooler deeper water but I
never even considered pitchin a plastic worm into 15-20 feet of water.
We caught at least 20 5lb+ fish. I caught one and he had two around 7. They ALL went back in the lake. Therein lies the key to the lake's success. Anything
from 16-24 inches is in the slot. IOW, you can only keep under 16 and over TWENTY FOUR inch fish!
A 24 inch bass goes close to 10lbs....prolly more. The state record 18.18lb
bass was a little over 25 inches so figure it out....of course it was caught at Lake fork. Along with 65% of Texas' top 50 bass.
I was most obviously impressed. I will be going back in the fall looking for a 10+......even if I can't coax another invite. I'll gladly pay a guide for another shot at these monsters.
Here's the regs..
Largemouth bass are subject to a 16- to 24-inch slot limit. Bass 16 inches and shorter and 24 inches and longer can be harvested with a daily bag limit of 5 fish, of which only 1 fish can be 24 inches or greater.

Seriously the best fresh water fishing ever.
If you ever get the chance....
