I'm leaving tomorrow for Warren, RI to board a 60 passenger boat for a 15 day trip. After we leave Warren, we are scheduled to cruise past New York City
and enter the Hudson River. From there we will go up the Hudson to the Erie Canal and then cruise through 4 of the Great Lakes and end up in Chicago. We will
be traveling during the day with various stops along the way and then tie up to docks in different towns and cities at night. It's a part of the country
that I've seen little of. I'm taking my laptop but have no idea about the availability internet access. I don't think it will be available on the
ship. Due to the slowness on this board it's probably an excellent time to clear out for a while!

charity and goodwill, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper, and the finder of lost children. And I will
strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I
lay my vengeance upon thee"

I do plan to take plenty of pictures, and of course I'll share. PT, you're right about low bridges. The boat has a retractable pilot house and only a
6 1/2 foot draft.

I'd like to take a trip on it myself. I've always been fascinated by the history.
Little known trivia: Thoreau hated the idea of the canal. Something about environmental damage and that it would simply make the rich richer. Oh, and the biggest backer of the canal? DeWitt Clinton. Got himself elected Governor in order to push the project. You'll be on the recreation canal, the barge canal is still in use and, until the 1950's((?) I think that's right) carried more freight than any other tranportation route in the state of New York. PT |
