hmmmmmm....as a younger semi-knowledgable sports fan from North America (CA, MBA USC, no i dont know beachie), I think you discredit us by asserting that we've only "heard of AU." Speak for yourself as a semi-knowledgeable sports fan from Alabama but don't spout opinions about what North American sports fans know or dont know. OK, auburn is a blip on the map, albeit a lovely blip with friendly classy if somewhat rabid fans, but the real interest in a team like AU for the "semi-knowledgable sports fan in North America is that they are a team in the current or upcoming year might be relevant to my own team's ultimate success and failure. I know about UA and theh bear, who doesn't? but I could give a rat's ass about the football tradition of UA, ND, Oklahomo, Mich or Minnesota, or AUs run of swimming champs, or SC's string of baseball championships under Dedeaux, or UGA gymnatics crowns or UT w Hoops etc etc. This is all academic. Why have the current SEC powers like AU,UF, LSU, and UGA been on my radar screen?....because they are relevent currently. Midseason doesn't count!!!! are you shitting us? That's when contenders are seprated from pretenders. Battles between UF and AU make for priceless football and national press, upsets by ULM make national press but as a punchline and not much more. UA will be back and AU will be down in the future, its inevitable and then I'll watch UA. Just saying. BTW I love this board!
