I think they were referring to 6 US Flags here. This is the link to the website for the artist who designed the Auburn flag in question. Here's what it said about it:

"One of Tazewell' s most memorable experiences was designing an Auburn school flag, one of which was planted on the moon by his fellow alumnus, astronaut Ken Mattingly."

Imatiger, You are right Mattingly did not walk on the moon. He piloted the mothership while others did the walking.

Here's an interesting fact, whether or not there is an Auburn Flag on the moon:

Auburn has had 6 graduates who were astronauts. That's more than any other school. Also, the current head of the Kennedy Space Center is an Auburn graduate, the third Auburn graduate to have held that post.
