Makes sense Lily | ||

Since Auburn is an overwhelmingly conservative school, we would invite repubs to speak. How big of a turnout would Hillary get?

Hey Patchie | ||
|
I have an honest question, no intent to be a !@%#!#%, although sometimes that happens. I just wonder why privacy rights seem to rank so high with liberals? I
honestly don't value privacy as highly as what I feel are more important issues, but many of you on the other side put privacy and freedom of the press
higher than most other rights. I find freedom of the press to be almost expendable in the grand scheme of things. I also don't care if the FBI taps my
phones, compiles files on me, or whatever. It's just strange to me, please enlighten.

For me, it's all about how agencies like CIA, FBI, NSA, et. al. can collect private information against their political enemies (real or imagined), and use
this information to intimidate, coerce, blackmail, and otherwise threaten people. Our government agencies have also used these tactics against the media, not
just private citizens; as well as foreign countries, their people, and their media.
I would refer you to the Church Commission of the 1970's. You could also check into how J. Edgar Hoover used his power and position to collect information on... well, practically everyone of any significance back in the day; not to mention Richard Nixon. Nixon and Hoover's personal use of state agencies are exactly why the FISA law, for example, was enacted. I think it's very dangerous to the very fabric of any democratic society for the government, or anyone else for that matter, to have unfettered access to the personal data of its citizenry without the appropriate oversight.

I do know Hoover had a file on everybody | ||
|
But as FISA has been used, they pretty much get the same access, and this was before the Patriot Act. As for me, when I weigh all of our rights, the most
important, by far, is the right to bear arms. To me that is the one that guarantees all the others. It just seems no matter who we vote for, our rights get
assaulted, and the one that matters most to me, the one that should be untouchable, is my right to bear arms. With that one right, I can defend myself, my
family, and my property, from all who have bad intentions. I think(and this is clearly speculation), there will be a time of great civil unrest in the coming
years, with riots, and such, making self defense all the more important. I'm not paranoid, it's just a cyclical thing. When economic times are hard,
there have always been these periods, and if history is a judge, we are overdue. What I don't know is what segment of society will emerge as the most
angry. The Republicans have their favorite rights, and the Dems have theirs. I happen to value them all, and don't care for either party meddling with
them. What say you Patchismo?

Anyway, strict and severe laws are more of a deterrant to the powers that be who would attempt to gather personal information of citizens for nefarious
means, than is your personal arsenal, TPT.
I, too, believe there's great upheaval coming in this country. As has happened (and is presently happening) throughout world history, when the poor and destitute have had enough they will inevitably rise up en masse; to take by force from those they perceive, true or false, as having achieved great wealth through unscrupulous means. The only way this sort of rebellion can ever hope to succeed in this country is if the lower classes can get not only the media but also the military on
their side; which will be no small feat. When this day comes, PTP, I really don't think these "rebels" will concern themselves too much with you
and yours... unless food becomes an issue. No, they'll be concentrating on the Cheneys, Bushes, and Rumsfelds of this country; as well as corporate heads
like Lee Reynolds.

its ocean sunset. I have attended a game at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala. And I've been changed forever".
