"Believe me on this. Please. I have descended into college football's Grand Canyon. I have stood in its Alps. I have gazed at
its ocean sunset. I have attended a game at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala. And I've been changed forever".

Thanks to all of you, on behalf of my family and myself. Sorry I have not been able to give an update sooner; I've been at the hospital most of the time
and didn't have a computer at my disposal.
Anyway, the Dr. said my grandmother's surgery went well. She had a rod placed in her fibula, tibia, and femur. They said they would not worry about her ankle and foot at this point, other than to put it in a cast. As for the three fractures in her vertebrae, they're still trying to determine if those are an old or new injury. Nevertheless, they are keeping her in a neck collar. As you can imagine with the extent of her injuries, she is in a lot of pain and discomfort. We've not heard how long she will be staying in the hospital, but we know it will be a long, hard recovery. Still, it is amazing she is alive and with us today. She is still in SICU, but should be moved to a regular room within the next day or so. Through it all, she has been alert and talking with all of us so that is good. Given the condition of the car and severity of the accident, it is amazing she is able to do all of this. The Lord has given us strength, comfort, and optimism, and I know his blessings will keep coming. I ask that you still keep her and us in your prayers so we can remain strong and have the stamina to keep going during this long recovery. I also ask you to pray for her that she will be comfortable and heal properly and quickly. As for my grandfather, he was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon and is doing fine, physically. He is still upset that it happened to her, and that he was the one that was driving. We're keeping him company and staying with him at his house to help him, which is helping him keep his mind off of all of this. I think that is all the information I have right now, but will do my best to keep you all up-to-date. I am extremely grateful to all of you for everything. I cannot thank you enough. Thank you all and War Eagle to you and yours, 06 |

I am so sorry to hear about this. I've been wrapped up in my own problems lately and hearing this add some much need perspective. Both of your Grandparents
will be in my most sincere thoughts and prayers as they begin the healing process. May God's strength be with them (and you).

Update:
My grandmother was released from the hospital and returned home last Thursday. Getting back home really brightened her up and has helped her recover a lot. She has made very good improvements and is not in a lot of pain anymore. With each passing day, she seems to be getting better. Though her neck is still in a brace - and will be so for a few more weeks - and her leg is still immobile, she is quickly on her way to making a full recovery. Given the extent of her injuries, her age, and the fact she has osteoporosis, it is amazing she has recovered as well and quickly as she has. She has a hospital bed set up in her home and she has been alternating between that when she wants to rest, and a regular chair with a foot-stool when she wants to visit with everyone. And, tonight, she was able for the first time to get in a wheelchair and move into the den to watch TV with my grandfather. She said the wheelchair felt really comfortable and did not cause her any additional pain in her leg. So, she will probably be able to utilize it more often to get a change of scenery and watch some television in the den. Everything is going better than expected and we are happy to see the progression she has made. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers, without which all of this would not be possible. I have pictures of their car and will post them when I can. It's hard to believe she came out of this alive, looking at the damage sustained to her side of the car. Thanks again to all of you and a big War Eagle to my Auburn family. |
