Saban IS a helluva recruiter but I do wonder if he simply likes to go by a who's who list of prospects. Looking at this year's commits, it would appear that he may like going the star power route. If that is the way he likes to operate then I think he may be making a mistake. Look at some of those teams that finish in top 5 in recruiting. I think Iowa got a class like that a few years ago and I haven't seen them amount to be too much. Notre Dame does it year in and year out and where are they. Of course you have your USC's and other comparable schools that land a top 5 and they are able to win with them. I just think that we at AU find young men who fit into our system in every way (ability, our position needs, attitude, commitment etc.). I think we get guys that we KNOW will mesh well with our other guys which makes AU gel as a team. If you go for all star power you may not get the team chemistry needed to make the big picture come together (wins). Top rated classes don't = Championships. Good coaching and team chemistry and a great deal of luck= Championships.

The teams we've put together in the past 5 years have been able to hang with any team in the nation (with the rare exception like UGA last year). And I think only one or none have been top 5 recruiting classes. I'm content with the way we've been recruiting and I'm sure I will be happy with this year's class regardless of in state and national perception.
