Border security is a long post in itself. Short version is that landmines were a joke so lighten up
No, they weren't a joke as one post even defended their use. Please see the PLAN TO DESTROY AMERICA THREAD As far as McCain goes, he has made no effort to clarify his stance and continues to promote that we'll stay in Iraq until the job is done, regardless of how long or expensive that is.

Speaking of criminal-illegal alien problem:
|
This was a good idea in 1954, and SORELY needed today: Operation Wet-Back-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Wetback Operation #@!#!+$ was a 1954 project of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) to remove about 1.2 million illegal immigrants from the southwestern United States, with a focus on Mexican nationals. Burgeoning numbers of illegal aliens prompted President Dwight D. Eisenhower to appoint his longtime friend, General Joseph Swing, as INS Commissioner. According to Attorney General Herbert Brownell Jr., Eisenhower had a sense of urgency about illegal immigration immediately upon taking office. In a letter to Sen. William Fulbright, Eisenhower quoted a report in The New York Times that said: "The rise in illegal border-crossing by Mexican 'wetbacks' to a current rate of more than 1,000,000 cases a year has been accompanied by a curious relaxation in ethical standards extending all the way from the farmer-exploiters of this contraband labor to the highest levels of the Federal Government."[1] Eisenhower became increasingly concerned that profits from illegal labor led to corruption. The operation was modeled after the deportation program that invited American citizens of Mexican ancestry to go back to Mexico during the Great Depression because of the bad economy north of the border. See Mexican Repatriation. [edit] Operation The operation began in California and Arizona and coordinated 1,075 Border Patrol agents along with state and local police agencies to mount an aggressive crackdown, going as far as police sweeps of Mexican-American neighborhoods and random stops and ID checks of "Mexican-looking" people in a region with many Native Americans and native Hispanics.[2] 750 agents targeted agricultural areas with a goal of 1000 apprehensions a day. By the end of July, over 50,000 aliens were caught in the two states. Around 488,000 people fled the country for fear of being apprehended. By September, 80,000 had been taken into custody in Texas, and the INS estimates that 500,000-700,000 people had left Texas voluntarily. To discourage re-entry, buses and trains took many people deep within Mexico before being set free. Tens of thousands more were put aboard two hired ships, the Emancipation and the Mercurio. The ships ferried them from Port Isabel, Texas, to Veracruz, Mexico, more than 500 miles (800 kilometers) south. [edit] Result Operation #@!#!+$ deported approximately 80,000 Mexican nationals in the space of almost a year, although local INS officials claimed that an additional 500,000-700,000 had fled to Mexico before the campaign began. The INS estimates rested on the claim that most undocumented people, fearing apprehension by the government, had voluntarily repatriated themselves before and during. END Seems Ike had it right.....The above sounds good to me, plus, seal the border, enforce the laws, and change the Constitution to stop "anchor baby" syndrome.

Ah, that thread. It started as a joke but there is some validity to the idea if the security situation warrents such measures. Granted, that
won't be until Denver is turned into a smoking cinder but still it's not like the field wouldn't be marked: See FM 5-102 (Countermobility Doctrine)
And why should McCain have to clarify or change his stance? He was perfectly clear, and correct, the first time. PT

And why should McCain have to clarify or change his stance? He was perfectly clear, and correct, the first time
My understanding of his stance is that he will keep our military over there in whatever numbers is required for as long as is required. If that is his stance, he doesn't need to clarify, but if it is'nt his stance, he might should clarify because as is, that means he'd keep our troops there, even if it required large numbers of troops for 100 years. Did he qualify his 100 years remark by saying but not in a military role requiring large number of troops? I missed that part if he did. |

As someone who has been to Iraq, and seen it with my own eyes, and work everyday with 75% of us having been to Iraq or Afghanistan, or both, I want to FINISH
the mission. It will take several years, anyways, to pull 100% out. Lots of logistical moves to make when you pull out. Might as well stay and FINISH the
job. Then pull out.
Obama, Klinton, etc. say "If elected, I will have the troops out within 1 year" (that is a generic quote). Won't happen. Realistically unattainable. Only spoken to appease the anti-war movement.

One. More. Time.
"The 100 years comment by McCain did not envision us in a 100 Years War in Iraq. The answer came in response to a question about the need for an extended American presence in the Persian Gulf. McCain compared the situation to American bases in Germany, Japan, and South Korea, all of which have existed for over half a century. McCain envisioned a similar arrangement with Iraq as part of a strategic positioning of US forces -- not as an ongoing war." PT |

The landmine issue was presented originally as a hypothetical solution to the immigration problem. I stated it was not the preferred method for dealing with
the issue. Then came the comments about proponents of landmines as lacking compassion, even carrying the debate so far as to call it capital punishment. I took
the ball and ran with it at that point. I do adhere to the philosophy that our country must always do what is in our best interest, regardless of how the
international community views things. We should never yield our authority to another body(such as the UN). Just like my belief that I have the right to defend
my property, without having to rely on the police making it to my home i time to do it for me. Politicians too often talk tough, but mean nothing. Most of our
current candidates fit this description. They say they want to stop illegal immigration, but their actions prove otherwise. If they wanted to stop it , it
would be stopped. I simply outlined a plan which would halt illegals, and it would work. However most wouldn't approve of such drastic measures. If our
leadership thought it was necesary to mine our borders, so long as it is marked, I don't have a problem with it, provided other steps have been taken to
allow legal immigration to increase. That is far from being cruel, it is a question of security, and our country having the right to do what is in our best
interest.

Dear Lawd, I Try To Overlook

The insane observations of this prick known as Brenda de Tinman...
And what is your definition of "finish the mission?" Look, @sswipe, we won the war... but we've long since lost the peace. The U.S. Military
is ill-equiped in dealing with a f^cking civil war. Further, our military (and most particularly you, individually, Tinman) should never be put in a position
of determining the outcome of a foreign country's civil war. Even if we did start the damn thing.

In what way are the Tuskegee Experiments/MK_Ultra related to the immigration problem?
Check your friendly, neighborhood dictionary because "civil war" doesn't mean what you think it does, apparently. Get with the times, that meme was long ago dropped as it didn't happen. PT |
