Got up early this morning for a 7 o'clock Southwest flight from B'ham to New Orleans with 3 family members. It was a gorgeous day there and by 9:15 we
were at the Cafe du Mont ordering coffee and biengets (sp?). Then we had a trolley ride through the Garden District followed by a visit to the Aquarium (not
worth the $$$), a late, leisurely lunch and drinks at Galatoire's in the French Quarter where we met a couple of friends who live in NO. After lunch one
of the friends drove us around some (we saw Brad and Angelina's place) and then went to the friend's house to check out what had been done to repair it
after Katrina damage. The water got up to 7 feet there but you could never tell that now. He then carried us to the airport for the 7:10 flight back to
B'ham. We all felt like we had been away for a whole weekend.
I highly recommend this for a day trip! Southwest is running some special fares and a round trip ticket was only was only $70. I bet it's not much more from Atlanta or other southern cities. Much less expensive than driving down and spending the night.
