Why don't you just admit that I poke a hole in your fantasy land. Jeepers, somehow you guys have convinced yourselves that you are a nat'l power. National powers have a resume, you dont.Based on this challenge, I looked at the NCAA site of past national champions (football) and found the following. According to Google and the NCAA, 17 times (not 12) Alabama has been named the MNC by some recognized group, while Auburn has 4. Of course, 6 of Alabama's championships came when they were refusing to play Auburn, so I don't know if those should count or not.
No, 6666666666666, does not make you a national power.
Titles make you one, not just talking UA, put yourself against the other premier teams. Then quote numbers other than 6.
Of course, Silver pointed to other schools and I though it interesting that Michigan has 15 championships, while USC has 16 and Notre Dame also has 17. Now, these schools could legitimately be considered national powers, and their record bares this out. The problem with this premise is that Yale and Princeton both have 27 (yes- TWENTY-SEVEN) championships, and the last time I looked, I did not find either of them considered a football powerhouse. At the same time, if we look at the period from 1980 forward, the NCAA site shows Auburn with 2 MNC (and they did not count 2004), while Alabama only has one.
Now, I admit that Alabama was a powerhouse in the 60's and 70's, but the parents of this year's recruits were barely in grammar school when that streak ended. Therefore, does what happened over 30 years ago still make the Crimson Tide a national powerhouse, or a has-been like Princeton and Yale.
