I thought I would share this list of people who were homeschooled. This is just a depressing list of people who never made anything of themselves. Be prepared...These people were social outcasts and did nothing for our society. John Adams Joseph Pulitzer Robert Frost Irving Berlin Whoopi Goldberg (uhhh ohhh, LIBERALS should be ashamed) Jennifer Love Hewitt ( maybe her dad just didnt want her harassed by boys) Hanson (ok so this is not surprising, MMMBBOOPPP, really?) Johnson -- Columbia ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yeah, I know ghsabo, N2B, and Patchie will have some nice remarks about this list. But oh well...I had to get in my sarcasm for the day !!! As far as I know these all are true. But I'm sure someone will take the time to look each one up and prove me wrong. Keep the debates coming, I may be speaking for the minority, but I enjoy them. For the most part, everyone is arguing well, nothing too personal. No middle man to interpret to steer the discussion either way...Just pure, unadulterated madness of arguments. By the way, all of y'all are crazy and spend WAY TOO much time on here...I spend way too much time reading 12 pages of a thread...

Everyone knows if we just had more government control of all phases of life everyone would be better off!!!!! People do not need money to spend on their selfish pursuits they just need to hand their checks over to the government and let the government take care of them.

I just didn't like the remark the generalized all those who were home-schooled. I have good friends who were home-schooled that had no problems with social interaction and getting along with others. But, there were also kids I knew that were home-schooled, who had no personality and social skills, period. But it still should be a decision for the parents to be able to make. I personally believe that home-schooling does take away from developing social skills and learning to function in the outside world. It can lead to kids be sheltered WAAYY too much and not being able to function properly. But then again, there a LOT of home-schooled kids who have no problems. In the end, parents shold have the right to decide on their own, even though I may not agree.

TIGER OVERLORD Posts: 5388 (04/14/08 07:45:39) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Just remember, home schooled kids may be sheltered from a lot of beneficial stuff but they are also sheltered from an immense amount of very destructive stuff too. Here is another important fact, grammar school aged kids learn more in a typical 2.5 - 3 hour home schooling day than kids learn in institutional grammar schools (public and private) in a 6 - 7 hour day. Of the families I know who have home schooled, 1/2 of the kids were home schooled because the public school labeled them as slow learners or learning disabled and their parents decided to take control. Everyone of these kids has now graduated from a 4 year college. Aubie, you forgot to mention Tim Tebow(no social skills or leadership skills in that kid, I guess?). Too bad, what a warped character Tebow is, no future at all. Kinda feel sorry for him, don't you?

Destined to do absolutely nothing. The thing with home-schooling is finding and adhering to that happy medium. Most success stories stem from those home-schooled who were from a religious family...SO the kids were still doing things with youth groups and activities. Also, now, most home-school organizations, arrange regular field-trips and events so that the kids do have the interaction. Also the parents must be dedicated to doing the home-schooling. Where they set the concrete schedule and spend time with the kids, not just letting them do their workbooks and send them in. I do agree that sheltering from the dangerous and destructive stuff is good, but those kids still must be taught about those type of things so that they know how to face and deal with them. I guess it really boils down to the committment of the parents and the structure they set forth.

I look at it this way.... For every 'Home-School' -ed person listed, there are 10,000 that were just normal, everyday people..... and ~5 that were serial Killers... Just like for kids who went to public schools.... 20 are Presidents and Artists and Sports Figures and 10,000 are normal and 5 end up killing people.... What is the big deal????? Many professional educators believe that if the home educator is not well qualified or fails to include a child in group activities outside the home, it can produce young adults who have insufficient social skills and, in the extreme, borderline xenophobia. Lack of socialization skills and life experiences can stifle a child's maturation and his ability to mentally process disappointments, failures and life changes. David Ludwig, 18, and Kara Roth, 15, were Pennsylvania teenagers who met at an outing for home-schooled teens in Lititz, Pa. In November 2005, Ludwig shot and killed Kara's parents when they banned him from seeing their daughter. The two fled to Indiana, where they were captured. Experts said that Ludwig had a self-indulgent apathy toward others' feelings and property and never showed remorse for the murders. Home schooling can also be a cover for abuse. There have been many foster-care children who have fallen victim to neglect and worse, and no one outside the home had any idea of the desperate situation. In the cases of Andrea Yates, who drowned her five children, and Deanna Laney, who beat two of her three sons to death with a block of concrete - none of the children ever attended public schools. A 14-year-old North Carolina boy killed his two siblings with a handgun, and then killed himself. They were all home-schooled in a shockingly impoverished rural dwelling. Their mother was quoted as saying she would rather all three be in "God's hands" than the public schools. Marjorie Lavery, second- place finisher in the National Spelling Bee, was beaten and threatened with death by her father for losing. He pleaded guilty to child endangerment. These examples are probably the exception to the rule. Not all home-school environments are negative. There are many outstanding examples of home-schooled youngsters who win awards, achieve high honors and become successful adults. But those "exceptions" underscore the need to be watchful in any community for abuse, especially for kids the rest of the world may not see on a daily basis. America's public schools produce their share of dysfunction, and defenders of home-schooling loudly proclaim the violence and social ambivalence of some students and educators. One must wonder the result if they contributed the same time and effort toward improving public schools. These times are so uncertain, there's a yearning undefined...and people filled with rage. We all need a little tenderness. How can love survive in such a graceless age.... Don Henley
