By Siberia do you mean the High Arctic? Up there you have oil and gas (lots of) and diamonds (some). Siberia, on the other hand, is a treasure box of goodies that would make Russian silly wealthy (and solve a few of our problems too) if those goodies weren't out in, well, Siberia. Transporting them out is a bit of a problem (which is like saying the ocean is a bit wet).

There are a few folks who live and work up in the high arctic, though, and the only way to get things to some of them is by water. Then there is the tourism factor.

Ok, granted it's a bit chilly up there but if those images don't tug on something inside of you then you have no soul. Maybe, for me, it's because, way back when, my family were Norsemen so those scenes trigger something back on the DNA level.
