Ex-Grissom star hits long homerin rout of ETSU
AUBURN - Freshman first baseman Hunter Morris hit his first career home run as Auburn finished
off a four-game sweep of East Tennessee State with a 12-2 victory at Plainsman Park on Monday.
Morris, a former Grissom standout, hit a two-run shot over Auburn's version of the "green monster"
in left field in the second inning.
After going 1-for-5 with two strikeouts in his college debut Friday, Morris was 6-for-13 with five runs
batted in over the final three games.
"The first night everybody was anxious," Auburn coach Tom Slater said.
"Everybody nervous. That's just opening night. The rest of the weekend, that's Hunter Morris."
ETSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning Monday, but Auburn answered with five in the
bottom of the first and went to score 12 runs for the third consecutive game.
Sophomore Austin Hubbard got the win after a shaky start, giving up two runs on six hits with three
strikeouts and three walks in five innings.
Michael Hurst, Bradley Hendrix, Evan Crawford and Bryan Woodall each pitched one scoreless inning to close out the game.
" I was really pleased with our bullpen all weekend long," Slater said. "I thought they did an excellent job."
Freshman center fielder Trent Mummey had three hits and junior right fielder Mike Bianucci had three
hits apiece for Auburn. Ben Jones, who took over for Brian Fletcher in left field, hit a solo homer in his only at-bat.
Catcher Tony Caldwell, in his first career start, hit a three-run double in the first inning.
Auburn will open a four-game series against Florida State, ranked as high as No. 12, on Thursday.
The two teams will play Thursday and Friday at Plainsman Park, then will play Saturday and Sunday
at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee. The Seminoles beat Duquesne 15-3 Sunday to finish a three-game sweep.
