I wonder of Nutt's history of preparing backs for the nfl. One thing I bet many a former AU back will tell you is that Gran won't let them see the field until they learn all the responsibilities of being a running back, which includes a lot more than just running the ball. Obviously mcfadden & jones will get a shot at the nfl, but it will be interesting to see if they have the complete package or their respective pro teams have to wait until they learn how to pass block, pick up...

it wasn't BS that Nutt fed to Enrique about Ole Miss. It was BS fed to him about the spread offense. He would be a runner, receiver, blocker etc. in our new offense. Nutt will pound and pound and pound him until he breaks down and gets injured IMO. Nutt played on a lot of the stereotypes of the spread and convinced Enrique that the spread was not for him. As great of a talent as he is, he can thrive in any offense. We will still run some I-formation kinds of things...

If you will remember we were winning the Georgia game in the third quarter. Our offense could not keep up with thiers so we had to start throwing the ball.(which we could not do). Then the game got out of hand. The game was closer than the score.

i think that julio jones and jerrell harris actually signed with auburn, but that the fax lines were mis-configured by some rogue IT person with ties to Alabama to route the faxes to the offices in Tuscaloosa.

Just one of those things that happened. Actually the only team who was more physical than Auburn this season was LSU. I know UGA creamed us but Stafford could have thrown and hit a dime layed on the 40 yard line from the endzone that day.

thanks mab you're correct, and i think you just helped make my overall point. 5-7 Vandy this year and 6-6 WSU in '06. let teams hang around (MSU, USF) and anything is bound to happen...question, does anyone know our biggest comeback (point-deficit) in recent history, inside 5 years or so? thanks. wde.

the spread compliments our 08 signings and current personnel....kodi and brad to name 2! we will still put out rushing numbers, but i'd rather be 'skill position U' than RB U. expect all our offense to still know how to block big, run left, run right, run middle. with the scoring D #'s we've put up, can't be scared to run the spread in the first half and look at other options if necessary at that point. we might actually put someone away before 2 minutes in the 4th!...

We'll always be be known as Runningback U. Just because we're going to the spread, doesn't mean we are dropping the running game all together. Even if CF wanted to do that, I really doubt CT would ever allow that to happen.

Auburn sends more players to the pros then bammer could ever dream of. I guess the players that signed with bammer don't really want to go in any round of the draft.

In looking at where we're going, there are a few points everyone has seemed to miss.

If you're ahead by 30 with 8 minutes left in the game, ball control does not mean the same as what we've experienced the past few years.
You can still run the ball to use up the clock. The thing with ball and clock control has always been the need to make the next first down. I believe that that is significantly easier under CTF's system, and if you're...

That will be the interesting aspect that everyone is waiting to see play out. The spread offense in general is not very good at running the clock, but Franklin's offense is probably even less efficient because his spread is built on running...

I agree with your comment on the importance of a good OL to an extent; however, having a good running back is still vital to offensive success. We saw that many times this year with the talent, yet inexperience, of Fannin and Tate.

That said, I don't mind the concept of abandoning the "Running-Back U" label. Change is not necessarily a bad thing at all, and the more we win, the better the change.

sure there are special talents out there but under a system that forces the defense to spread out with good zone blocking by the OL marginal RB's can succeed. UK lead the SEC in rushing yardage when Franklin was there. Franklin will bring atheletes and QB's in. Auburn will bring in RB's based on its name. WVU runs the spread and they do fine with the running game. TT will not run a offense that doesnt allow the team with the lead to burn the clock. 4th quarter up 9 with 3 to play...
